YES!

The obscenity that was the US version of Life on Mars has been cancelled.

Writers are scrambling to work the actual series ending into this season's finale.

also, perhaps more importantly, they're apparently going to run the real LoM again on BBCA!

Well, so do I, but this is a good thing 'cos hopefully more people will be able to watch the original!

I refused to watch it. Outside of Sanford/Steptoe and Son, I can't name any show that crossed the Atlantic that wasn't inferior to the original.

I vastly prefer the American version of the office to the British one.

Gah! Good riddance!

Incidentally, you're directly responsible for my having watched the original Life on Mars, as I downloaded the first episode from you, even though it took me months to get around to watching it. Thank you for that, it was awesome.

Pity about Ashes to Ashes.

I HATE that show. I always find myself watching the first 5 minutes because it comes on immediately after Lost, while I'm still discussing the episode with Remy. Inevitably, I have to scream out, "WHY IS QUANTUM LEAP ON MY TELEVISION?!"*

*no offense whatsoever meant to Quantum Leap

I'm embarrassed and ashamed to admit that actually kind of liked it (a little). It can't even come close to the original UK version, but taken on its own, I found it strangely interesting.

I wonder if part of the reason is because the first US pilot was so dreadful (in spite of my best efforts, I could never even bring myself to watch the entire thing). Perhaps it just set my expectation level really, really low.

That said though, I won't really miss it. If they hadn't cancelled it, I suspect it would've fallen into the standard trap that most American television seems to fall into: keeping it open-ended, so it can go on, and on, and on (etc).
