Could it be? An artificial sweetener that doesn't taste like one?
I just had a Talking Rain Twist Fusion Thrive (somebody with some marketing savvy really needs to help them out, 'cause that's a beast of a product name) sweetened with 'Zerose' zero calorie sweetener (aka erythritol).
I am generally against most artificial sweeteners, because no matter how often they try to tell me that they taste just like sugar, they in fact inevitably taste like a clumsy chem student spilled something in your drink. Sweet'n'Low, Equal, Splenda, Stevia... they all taste like chemical nastiness and a perverted parody of sugar.
This didn't.
Apparently, it's sold commercially as a standalone sugar substitute under the trade name Sweet Simplicity. Given that it was in a fruit juice drink, I'll have to try it separately to see if the tang of the juice perhaps masks some other flavour characteristics, but so far at first try I'm very impressed.
No, that's it. That's all I wanted to say.
Hey, not every post is a gem, you know. Sheesh!
